From Reception to Leadership: Our New Hotel Manager in an Interview
Congratulations on your new position! How does it feel to be the hotel manager at MY CLOUD Transit Hotel now?
Thank you for the kind congratulations - I'm absolutely thrilled about my promotion and all the exciting new tasks that lie ahead.
You've been part of the team since the opening. What attracted you to MY CLOUD back then and what has kept your here all these years?
Almost nine years have flown by - somtimes it feels like it all started just yesterday. Even now, being the hotel manager still feels a bit surreal to me.
Back then, it was especially the combination of hotel and airport that appealed to me.
I didn't know HERING at first, but I quickly got to know the company - and came to appreciate it. Today, I'm convinced that HERING is a fantastic employer.
That's one of the main reasons I've stayed.
I was told back then, "At HERING, you can achieve a lot." And I can honestly confirm that today. I started as a receptionist - and now I'm standing at the top of a great team as the hotel manager.
What are your main responsibilites as hotel manager - and what are you most excited about in your new role?
My personal goal has always been to create a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere - for both our guests and my team. With a strong team by my side, I'm confident we'll achieve our goals together.
Do you have a motto or philosophy you work by?
Passion and joy in what we do are the heart and soul of our success.
I was shown this by others, and it's exactly this feeling that I want to pass on to the people around me.
What has been your most memorable experience at MY CLOUD Transit Hotel so far?
A very special moment was my promotion in 2018 at Front Office Manager.
Have there been any particular challenges that stand out to you, and how did you overcome them?
The came COVID - a time that presented unique challenges for all of us. For us at the hotel, it meant almost full occupancy - with many people stranded at the airport who found refuge with us.
But they were more than just guests to us. We took care of them - shopping fot them, cooking, washing laundry, bringing fresh fruit, hot meals and good wine to the hotel. Since all the restaurants at the airport were closed, some guests even received a haircut in their rooms from our staff.
It was a demanding time and we worked to our limits. But it was also a time when I particularly appreciated our team - the solidarity, the togetherness and the shared goal: giving our guests a home for an indefinite period. Seeing them smile in such a tough time was a special task for all of us.
Are there any innovations or ideas that guests ot the team can look forward to?
I have many ideas for the future, especially to make MY CLOUD even more well-known: ideally worldwide, but especially for now at Frankurt Aiport. This concept has so much potential.
What should guests definitely know about MY CLOUD Transit Hotel?
What do our guests particularly love? Without a doubt, our cozy bed!
After a long flight, showering here feels almost like being reborn. And to top it off, we offer a really good coffee before they head to the next gate.
All of this is accompanied by attentive, friendly service. Does it sound almost too good to be true? It's not. A visit to us is definitely worth it.
Come and see for yourself!
What is your favorite spot in MY CLOUD?
My personal favorite place in the hotel is the corridor behind rooms 37-58, the back side of the hotel with a view of the apron. Even after all these years working at the airport, I can't get enough of watching planes take off and land.
From there, I was able to watch the construction of Terminal 3 live (planned opening: 2nd quarter of 2026).
During COVID, the runway seemed to have 1000 planes parked - a sight that's hard to forget.
Which guest review has touched you the most?
There were times when I stood at the reception myself every day. My goal was always to give more than what was expected. To touch people, to make them happy - that was definitely my motivation.
And the greatest thank you for me was never the tip, but the many kind online reviews, in which my name was mentioned. Each one more beautiful than the last - I know it may sound a bit self-confident, but it's the truth. And I'm very proud of it.
There are guests we helped during difficult situations (flight cancellations, etc.) - and they still reach out to us today because they are so grateful for that time.
That's an indescribable feeling - and another reason why I love my job in the hotel so much.
Sometimes I think: I could have written a book about our work and experiences at MY CLOUD Transit Hotel.
